Today is Sunday. Surprise!
I know you all know this, but this Sunday means something new for our family. We go to church. We teach/listen to our lessons. We pray. We do most of the things we should do.
Last week, while out of town, Heath attended church in our old ward. The topic of Sacrament Meeting was keeping the Sabbath Holy, and Family Home Evening.
Two things that we do NOT excel at!
Not that we are crazy on Sunday—we don’t shop, we don’t play outside or do weekday stuff. We do watch a lot of tv though and most of it is not spiritual in nature.
We also don’t do well at all with FHE. We have attempted a few times, but with two kids who don’t listen, it isn’t easy.
Heath came home with a plan and we are beginning today. Folks. I have been wearing my church clothes since 7:30 this morning. I don’t like wearing church clothes. If I could get away with it, I wouldn’t wear them to church. Heath and I talked though, and agreed that staying in our Sunday best would help us keep track of our thoughts and actions throughout the day.
After church today (the broadcasted Stake Conference), we went to Heath’s parents and ate lunch. The tv stayed off the whole time. That may be the longest that tv has ever been off while I’ve been there. After lunch, we came home and watched some church videos. The Restoration and Legacy. Those aren’t very long.
Right now Keali is sleeping (something I wish I were doing) and Kalyn is singing her own version of High School Musical. The tvs are off. Heath is out with the missionaries.
Tonight we are headed back over to the In-Laws for FHE. I will be doing the lesson, Kalyn is picking the game, and Heath is responsible for the treat. We will do it with as many of the Lambs as we can get. We are hoping to start a tradition with this. We have a growing family—both immediate and extended. I want my children to grow up like I did with FHE every week and a constant gospel message in the home. It wasn’t a bad way to grow up! Hopefully we can continue this.
I may be bored stiff right now, but I know we are doing the right thing. Sundays are for Heavenly Father and Jesus. A day of rest from the normal stressors of life. A time to nap, focus on talents, spend quality time with loved ones. What can be bad about that?
