Training and Opening are my favorite times of the Res. Life year.  I absolutely love the fast paced nature and demand for organization.  When I get super stressed, I get super organized.  And training and opening do that for me—I am never better at my job then right now.   So why is all of this wearing me out?

I’ve been in training since the first of July.  I supervise 5 graduate students.  ALL of them are new to this job.  So, they ALL have to be trained from scratch.  Two of them have absolutely no background in university housing procedures, and two other who do, are brand new to ASU.  I have one from ASU who does have a housing background, but hasn’t worked in a res. hall for a while.  I am tired!  On top of my graduate staff—I have 54 undergraduates to supervise.

Of the 54, only 10 are returning from last year.  They are all new!!  This means they have to be trained from scratch too—and NONE of them has a housing background so it is really from the ground up that I am having to train them.  There just isn’t time.

On top of it all, my girth forbids me from running around to get everything done—and my own two years out of the housing arena are starting to show their nasty little heads.  I simply don’t remember how I did things two year ago (I’m sure the hormone induced forgetfulness is somehow responsible as well).

So.  In all.  I still love this time of year…I just need more sleep and about 7 more hours in the day.
