My appointment was at 10 am this morning.  On the way to the endodontist, Heath and I researched just how long a root canal should take, and what exactly took place during one.  I like to be as prepared as possible to know what is happening.  You only ever hear of two types of conclusion to this procedure—either people loved it, or it was the worst thing that has ever happened to them.

Heath was reading comments left by people who had a root canal.  One stated it was the most terrifying hour of his life.  I sort of doubted any procedure could be quite as terrifying as lasik eye surgery.  I mean, they tell you that if you don’t look at that red dot exclusively, you run the risk of blindness.  That was absolutely the most terrifying 5 minute of my life—in terms of procedures.  So a root canal couldn’t be so bad right?  I wasn’t going to go blind and at the very worst, they would just have to extract the tooth.

We got started with the numbing gel, then the numbing shots.  I could feel the prick of the first couple shots, but nothing bad.  I sort of laughed as my mouth slowly numbed up.  Then we got started.

It wasn’t terrifying.  At least not as much as lasik had been.  I was happy we had researched what happened during the procedure because I was able to gauge how far into it we were by the various instruments I saw being put into my mouth.  Then after an hour and a half it was done.  Looking back, it didn’t really feel like an hour and a half, but at the time I couldn’t pray enough for it to be over.  I sang “I am a Child of God” in my head about a million times (that is my soothing song).  And now here I am, about 4 1/2 hours later feeling pretty good.

I don’t know if some of the anesthesia is still working…my guess is yes because I don’t really feel any discomfort like I thought I would (except for my tongue where he accidently clamped it to the tooth).  If this continues, then I would say it was worth it all.  I’ll probably say that anyway just to have that pain gone.

I certainly NEVER want to have to do it again though.

Without giving much information, I have to ask for all of your prayers for my friends Lucas and Jaime.  They are in desperate need of prayers for their family’s health and safety.  Please help me out with this.
