WOW!  It has been a week!  A crazy week.  At work anyone who ever had a problem had one this week.  I was yelled at by parents, had a window broken (by a fist) in one of my halls, got to process payroll for the first time (in this system anyway), and went to the dentist--one of my all time most-hated activities.  Luckily everything went well at the dentist.

Last Saturday, Fresca escaped.  Fresca is one of our Cockatiels.  I was cleaning the apartment.  I usually open doors and windows when I do this so we can get some fresh air.  Then I decided to clean out the bird's cage.  I opened the door and Fresca climbed out.  I thought nothing of it.  I finished cleaning the cage and then reached for Fresca to put her back in.

He (Fresca is definitely a boy) saw the open door at the exact second I thought about it and took off.  I am no match for a bird in flight.  Sure enough he flew right outside.  I ran after him, but couldn't give chase because I was on the porch and was fenced in.  I watched him circle the apartments.  I totally panicked.  All I could think was "What am I going to tell Heath?" and "How am I ever going to catch him...I wonder if the fire department would get him for me if he landed on the roof?"

I ran back into the apartment then out the front door.  My bird was gone.  My beautiful, loud, and obnoxious bird (that I happen to love very much) was gone.  I was searching the skies when I heard him.  I knew it was Fresca because no other bird in the world can sing the Superman theme like he can.  I search some more and finally spy him walking down the middle of the road.  Like he belonged there.

I cautiously approached because I didn't want him to take off again.  I think the whole escapade terrified him actually--he started walking towards me as I called his name--and chirping the whole time.  I gingerly picked him up and covered him with my other hand to prevent his wings from spreading and flying off again.  Birds don't tend to like this and Fresca is no exception.  He pecked the crap out of me as we walked back to the apartment.

I had locked myself out.  Great.  At least the porch door was still open.  I had to climb over the fence...not an easy feat when you can't use your hands.  I mulled over the idea of placing Fresca under my shirt while I pulled myself over the fence, but ultimately decided I didn't want him pecking anything other than my fingers.  I finally got over the fence (I still am not sure how) and got the bird back into the cage.  Wow.  That was excitement!  I was so happy to have him back though--he wouldn't have lasted long in the wild!

Tomorrow is Kalyn and Keali's birthday party.  They are excited.  I am exhausted.  I haven't been sleeping well--thanks to the chainsaw I married, but I am betting I will sleep well tonight.  I'm not on duty anymore so that should help too.

It has been SO COLD here!

I am excited about tomorrow.  I will get to see most of my family and I'll have some friends coming over too.  It should be a lot of fun.

One of the girls in our office had a baby yesterday.  She was born 3 weeks early and had a pocket of air in her lungs, but she is well now.  We went to visit today and I don't think I have ever seen a baby look so much like her mother before!  Little Jayden is perfect in every way and is absolutely beautiful.  Made me think for a minute that I wanted to do that again.  Then I remembered how tiring it is!  JK.  Anyway--Congratulations Blair and Randy--Jayden is so precious and I am happy everything has turned out well.

I love babies!
