Talk Radio and Elvis Mania

Sacrament Meeting today was priceless!  First of all, my children were a bit better in the noise department...especially Kalyn.  The best thing though?  The talk given by the Bishop's 12 year old daughter.

She was talking about media influences on teenagers.  She was making all the usual good points.  She embarassed her father, the Bishop and her mother by saying, "My Mom listens to talk radio.  One of the programs that she loves has a lot of inappropriate subject matter, and I choose not to listen."  I almost died.  I looked at her Mom who was frantically shaking her head no, and her father who was trying not to laugh out loud.  So funny!

Then she started her unadulterated tribute to David Archuletta.  For 5 minutes she extolled his virtues, voice, and overall influence on her.  It was adorable!

As luck would have it, I had a Temple Recommend Interview after the meeting (we have friends getting sealed this coming Saturday, and our recommends expired today!).  I told the Bishop I enjoyed his daughter's talk and it was cute.  He told me he had read the talk last night and asked his wife to read it and share some insight with the daughter, as she had dedicated 3/4ths of the talk to David Archuletta to begin with.  He was just happy she limited herself to 5 minutes of Archuletta worship.

The Bishop said that for her birthday, he and his wife bought the daughter tickets to the American Idol concert.  He said, "you know Elvis mania?  It was like that.  When we gave her the tickets, she actually got weak in the knees and couldn't stand."  I said, "At least he is a good example.  It could be a lot worse!"  He agreed.
