It is 12:04 am and I have just finished the material part of my project. I still have to work on the verbal part of it, but the hard part is done. My eyes are having trouble focusing and I am having trouble typing correctly. I am happy to be done though!
I got a new pet yesterday! This time it is a beautiful pearl cockatiel I named Fresca (after my favorite grapefruit flavored beverage). No word yet on the sex of the bird...you can't tell with cockatiels until they are mature and Fresca is only about 13 weeks old. Another few months and we will know. I think it is a girl though.
When I brought her home Kalyn was so excited. Fresca was in her traveling box, and Kalyn't begged to see her. We opened the top of the box and Kalyn looked in. She was terrified! She said in a shaky voice, "I think it is kind of cute?" Then she asked for us to get it out of the box. Fresca hissed in a Jurassic Park raptor sort of way when Heath tried to pick her up. She did the same to me. I tilted the box so she could just walk out and Kalyn let out a blood curdling scream! It was so funny. She said, "maybe you will buy me a bird?" I replied, "maybe when you don't freak out every time you look at this bird."
Needless to say, Fresca is more scared of us than we are of her. We set up her beautiful cage and covered her up so she could calm down and start getting used to her new home. After a couple hours I took off the cover. For the next couple hours, every few minutes, Keali would get wide-eyed, point to the bird and say, "buh, buh!" Everytime like it was the first time she had laid eyes on it. Think Tatoo and , "The Plane! The Plane!" only with "Da Buh! Da Buh!" So cute.
We obviously cannot allow the girls to have physical contact with Fresca yet because she is so skitish, but after the girls went to bed I took her out (it was a process that lasted about 10 minutes in an effort to protect my fingers) and Heath and I started her training. She is very pretty and I think with continued training and personal interaction she will be a great pet.
When I was younger, our family had a white cockatiel named Sugar and I have always wanted to have my own. Heath learned this a few months ago and has been diligently searching for a good bird for me. He took Kalyn out this afternoon while I was working on my project (by the way, this project is a presentation I am giving at an upcoming job interview...a very important interview) and they found the bird at a pet store. Heath called me to tell me about it, then when he came home I went out to get Fresca. Tomorrow we are going to Little Rock for my doctor's appointment and we will pick up some toys for Fresca...and some sandpaper perches (her talons are SHARP).
I am looking forward to going to sleep. I am so tired!

You guys are so funny! I'm glad you're happy with your bird...I remember Sugar and I have to say I've never since wanted a bird of my own! You are very brave...do you remember what that bird did to Dad's finger?
Thanks, apparently my mom is coming to take care of us all.She said she needed to go to Miami so she'll stop by to help.
I think I'm feeling better about it now. Thanks :-) and good luck with the interview
Hey...congrats on Fresca...I love the name! Bryan will love it too as he also loves the drink by that name. I love all the pictures...they are so good. I've neglected blogging and email too long. I've worked every day this past week except Thursday and will have the same schedule next week...so I might be just as "absent" from blogging until this "flurry" of working is over...love ya...Mums
