Fears

Kalyn is afraid of everything. She has always been a brave child until recently. Now she claims that everything makes her 'ascared.' This morning she ran into my room at 6:30 in tears because the dogs were whining (never mind that she shouldn't have been in the kitchen swiping cookies). Last night the only way I could get her to stay in bed was to threaten to vacuum her bedroom with her still in her bed (she is terrified of the vacuum cleaner, running as quickly, and comically as she can whenever she catches sight of it). I know that is sort of cruel, but she will NOT stay in her bed! She is scared of train sounds and thunder. Last weekend, Papa was giving her a bath and he pulled the plug on the drain. There was a loud slurping noise and Papa said she ran to the other end of the tub to get away from the drain. It is all very funny, but still a lot of work to convince her that there is no point in being afraid of a train whistle from 2 miles away. I guess she should still be afraid of the vacuum since I threatened her with it.
Kalyn is the best baker in the world. She often makes cookies for our family (with a lot of help from me). She always tells her Daddy that they are the best cookies in the world. She is so cute.
I know why children grow so fast. They teach you in school that children grow because that is what they are supposed to do. What it actually is, is stretching. As soon as babies are born they start stretching. At first it is just after they wake up or when they are tired. Then they start reaching for things and that is when they start growing really fast. Keali reaches for everything and I swear she has grown a foot in the past month. She used to be so tiny! Where did my itsy bitsy baby go? She is standing at the couch reaching for toys strategically placed in the back by Kalyn who is often violently protective of her possessions. Ah, motherhood.
