Heath looked this up last night. Our kids names all come from one of two origins either Irish/Gaelic or Hebrew. Here are the meaning of each of our children’s names:
Kalyn=Pure Kara-El= Pure of God
Keali=Beautiful Lara-El=Cheerful of God
Kynan=Chief Kal-El=Voice of God
Kaci=Brave Raya-El=Friend of God
I was able to get some rest last night. It was nice to sleep a little. I spent the first few hours in the parent’s sleep room. I had managed to lie down—that took several minutes to accomplish. When I woke up needing to go to the restroom, it took me about 20 minutes to get out of the bed, so when I tried to sleep again, I sat in a chair. That worked for about an hour and a half, then I admitted defeat and asked Heath (who was sleeping in the babies room) to switch with me around 3 am. I slept in a recliner and slept really well for a few hours.
I’ve gotten enough rest now that I have been starting to understand what is happening, and my hormones have me crying a bit. A lady from the March of Dimes came to visit today. I have babies that qualify for the March of Dimes. It seems surreal.
Heath met some of Arkansas’ finest last night. He told me about them and he wasn’t lying. I saw them on my way to bed—and I’m trying really hard not to be mean—but WOW! I can’t imagine how these men got anybody to have their baby. I’ll leave it at that. I’m going to Hell by the way.
Kynan is doing really well. Both babies are showing signs of jaundice, so they are under bili-lights now. Hopefully we caught it early and they don’t have to have the lights for too long.
A nurse failed to read the doctor’s instructions and gave Kaci some more sedatives this morning even though they were supposed to stop after midnight last night. So we are having to wait until later today to take out her breathing tube.
For those of you from ASTATE reading this—the attending neonatologist is an ASU alum! We reminisced a bit about Delta Hall.
The doctors here are fine with us taking the babies back to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center when they are improved enough. That will be good for us because we can be much closer to home. We are looking at sometime next week. It could be as early as Monday, but probably closer to the end of the week. Encouraging!
Last night, I kept hearing a squeaking sound. I had been walking around and thought it was my shoes. Then I got over to Kynan and realized he had the hiccups. He sounded like a kitten’s meow. It was super cute. When either of them cry (Kaci can’t really cry right now with the tube) they sound like angry kittens. It is a beautiful sound!
Kaci keeps kicking her legs straight up in the air. She is the wigglier of the two. She kicks them up—holds them for a minute and then either lets them down very very slowly or just drops them. You never know which she will choose to do. She keeps escaping from the little nest they have created for her.
I’ve been doing fairly well. I’m certainly sore and tired, but I’ve been moving around a lot and I can tell it is helping me heal faster. Hopefully in a few days I can be close to normal. I’ve decided that I prefer a natural birth (with epidural) to a c-section. These women who want c-sections are crazy! At this point with Kalyn and Keali, I was able to walk close to normal and had no pain sitting or standing. I’m not even close to that now. Crazy I tell you!!
We’ve been admiring the babies hands and feet today. They both have incredibly long fingers and big feet! Heath says that Kaci has ‘frog toes.’ You know the tree frogs that have the skinny toes with the huge pads that help them stick? Her toes are kind of like that. They are cute. I’ve included some pictures below of their hands and feet—and one of Kynan in a cute “i’m thinking” position. We managed to get a picture of him with slightly opened eyes, but with the camera that we can’t get the pictures off of. That one will have to wait.
Kynan’s foot—please excuse the quality of some of these pictures. We have to take them through the window.
Kaci’s hand—the only person who will probably really be able to understand the scale of thier body parts to my hand is Jennifer. You know—since we have the same size hands!

They are so tiny...
I can't believe how tiny they are!
I am so thankful you are all doing relatively well. And I hope thingss just keep improving quickly. You're all in our prayers!
Don't forget to find time to take care of you amidst all the rest of this!
Cute! I'm glad you're getting some more rest.
Amazing pictures!
Hang in there C-Section recovery under "normal" circumstances is not fun. I can only imagine how many emotions you are feeling.
For me the first two weeks of recovery were the most painful then things get a ton better.
I'm so excited for your family and your new little ones!
You are in our prayers!

I'm so glad to hear they're doing better! Also glad to hear you're getting a chance to heal some!
Congratulations on 2 beautiful babies!
They are so sweet. It sounds like they are doing well considering how early they were. It's never easy seeing your child hooked up to tubes though. I hope they get better quickly and you too. C-sections DEFFINATELY aren't fun. I hated mine with a passion. Hopefully it will be easier in another week. Try not to overdue. Easier said than done I'm sure. We are thinking of you and praying for you.
