Yesterday at work I had a great phone conversation with a man who works at the University of Florida about some things I want to do here at Arkansas State University. It was amazing! I now feel I have a direction to move in. He gave me a lot of great...and doable...ideas. Now I just have to do it!
When I got home last night, both girls were taking naps. I was totally beat, but Heath wanted to go out. I opened the front door. It was as though a monsoon had hit Northeast Arkansas. I am not exagerating--even a little bit.
Heath still wanted to go out, so I went to bring the car around since I can't carry the girls. By the time I got to the car--maybe 40 feet from the front door--I don't think I had a single dry stitch on my body. I drove the car to in front of the apartment.
Heath brought the girls outside (I could barely see them). Keali started crying because the "wean was getting" her. Kalyn looked horrified at the thought of walking to the car, and Heath began to contemplate not going out after all. I was already soaked, so it didn't make much difference to me. However, Kalyn had been promised an evening with Mamaw and Papaw so she insisted they come to the car.
Heath grabbed Keali, and ran with Kalyn to the car (maybe 15 feet). He threw open the van door--literally threw the kids inside--and jumped into the front passenger seat. They were completely soaked too.
Once we got to my In-Laws, I dropped Heath and the girls off, then parked the car. When I finally got inside, everyone was drying off with a towel. We waited until the rain calmed a little bit and Heath and I headed off to shop.
We went to Kohls and almost got trapped in the parking lot. The water on the roads to get out of the parking lot were completely flooded--extremely deep. We found a safe way out though and I insisted we just get the kids and head home. I was so tired and it was already past eight. On the way back to his parents house, We were traveling in extremely deep water--I am actually surprised water didn't come into the van. Water did get in the break lines though.
We were almost to the house when we saw Heath's parents driving past us in the opposite direction. What! I wanted to go to bed!! They were going to wash Ronalds car--seriously! They were also going to vacuum it. Apparently Ronald was going to drive his boss around today so he wanted it to look nice. While waiting for our kids to come back, we ate some pizza with Tim and Shann and then I tried to fall asleep on the couch. I was almost asleep when they got back.
We headed home and saw several streets that had been closed off due to flooding. There was SO MUCH water!! Amazingly, even after their long and late nap, both girls went to bed easily and I was able to fall asleep just before 10 pm.
Kalyn thought the whole experience was an adventure and keeps telling the story about the deep water.
