It has been a long day! Heath and I tried to watch General Conference on the internet this morning for the first session. Our computer speakers just weren't loud enough for us to hear it, so we went out to buy some additional speakers.
While we were out we bought a couple nice jackets for my office. The man I share a thermostat with loves cold. He has control of the thermostat, so my office is frigid. I wouldn't be shocked if it started snowing in there soon.
We also bought some new jeans for Kalyn and Keali from Children's Place. They have the cutest jeans for girls and they are fairly affordable. They also are the only people who have jeans that will fit Kalyn well. Kalyn has a huge butt. There. I said it. Her tushy is so bubbly, it doesn't fit in normal jeans. On the other hand, the girl is beyond adorable in jeans. I am worried for when she gets a bit older.
After purchasing jeans at the mall, Kalyn and I caught up with Heath and Keali who were at Circuit City buying the speakers. Heath wanted to check out Spencer's for some Superman auto mats, so since Keali was having a fit, I offered to take both her and Kalyn out to the car so he could shop in peace. After about 20 yards of travel (reminder...we are inside a super-crowded mall), Kalyn decided to start throwing a fit too. I was carrying Keali, and holding Kalyn's hand--two screaming (I'm not exaggerating) children that I had to drag through half the length of the mall.
Of course our car was parked at the back of the parking lot. It was great! I was really impressed with myself that I didn't freak out on the kids. In fact, I didn't fuss with them at all. Not even when the old man on the bench started laughing at us. It had to have appeared funny, and I am sure that deep down, he felt sympathy for me.
We picked Heath up and headed off to WalMart for some crackers. Since the girls were both still crying, Heath went in by himself. Well, his leaving didn't help the situation one little bit. Kalyn finally got to the point of uncontrollable sobbing. She didn't even have anything to cry about! Now we are home, listening to conference--we can hear it!
Now for some news on our family. About 3 weeks ago, a daughter of one of our friends past away. She had two cockatiels that then needed a home. I didn't want them because I am fine with the one we have, but we got them both anyway on Wednesday.
Today I took a really good look at both of them. One is a Lutino, and the other is a dark gray. The Lutino is named Sprite, and Kalyn named the gray one Sally (I don't know where that came from). We had been told that both birds were very unsociable, but we haven't had any problems with either. They are both very tame and actually loving. Sally has been badly neglected though. Her talons were horribly overgrown so Heath and I cut them this morning. She also has dozens of feathers that are trapped in sheaths she is unable to remove. I started scratching her feathers and did so for over an hour. She looks SO MUCH BETTER.
She really enjoyed the help with her grooming and even began singing while I scratched. She let me scratch wherever I wanted to--really surprising because I was right next to her eyes and her beak. She even would lean in to get me to scratch in various places. I think she really appreciated the help. She looks great now, and it takes some serious prodding to notice the sheaths that have not been removed yet.
Sprite--she is fairly scruffy herself, but not anywhere near the shape Sally was in. We are taking both to the vet this week--I have some concerns with Sally's legs. She is very bowl legged, and has a very weak grip.
