We have had a nice morning thus far. I woke up before everyone else (almost never happens) and therefore got to see everyone as they woke up. Kalyn opened her door and slouched to the bathroom, giving me the sweetest of sleepy smiles on her way. Heath bounded up with an energy that I envy and Keali was playing acrobatic games in her crib when Heath and I went to get her. So cute.
This is what Keali looks like when she wakes up...what could be cuter?
We went into the kitchen to make breakfast (Kalyn wanted waffles) and Kalyn helped me get everything ready. For some reason I am always amazed at how much fun I have when I get over myself and really let Kalyn help me. She is so sweet and really wants to do stuff to help (on her terms of course). She washed the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher, and she wiped off the countertop. Sweetie Pie!
Keali started feeding her waffles to the dogs; "I peed da puppies!," she said. Then we picked up and vacuumed the living room with the monster vacuum cleaner. I still haven't gotten that sound to go away, but at least it cleans well.
Fresca runs away from me as I chase her with the camera.
Fresca is in the middle of her first molt. It is a mess. I always thought that when a bird molts, all the feathers fall off and then grow back. Apparently the fall out one by one and grow back. The whole process can last weeks! I have feathers everywhere! And the poor bird. She looks like she just flew through a hurricane with feathers poked out at weird angles. She looks quite ragged. Her tail feathers aren't as sleek as usual. I hope this is over soon.
I wish I could just put her in the kitchen. It would be much easier to keep the feathers off the floor, but since the kitchen is classified as the dogs' domain, I can't. Bernie postures and begins to salivate every time he sees Fresca (remember he already tried to eat her once?), so if she was in the kitchen full time, I doubt that either one would ever get any rest!
