I get my babies back today!! I am so anxious to see my little ones. I have been with out them since last Saturday and I need to see and hold them again. I have some trepidation, considering that they are active little girls, and my stomach is still quite tender, but I think I can handle a little discomfort if it means that I get a hug from Kalyn and Keali.
They have had a blast in Jonesboro, and even went fishing (yuck!). Kalyn told Heath that she didn't see any fish, but she did see a worm. Thank you to everyone who has had positive thoughts and prayers for my speedy recovery. I am doing very well, and I feel so much better than I used to.
Here is a funny story about this experience. I haven't really been able to appreciate it until recently because I couldn't laugh without extreme discomfort until recently.
The day of my surgery, my neighbor, Ms. Gilmore saw Heath helping me out of the car. I was still suffering from the effects of anesthesia, and was very sore so Heath was really having to help me stand and walk. A few hours later, Ms. Gilmore called the house. Now, some of you have met this wonderful elderly lady and you know that she is crazy. I mean this in the nicest way. She is a wonderful person with a heart of gold. She is just a bit clingy so I have to be careful with my interactions with her. She really is great though. Anyway...she called the house and spoke with Heath. This is sort of how the conversation went (not word for word, but the jist):
Ms. Gilmore--"I saw you with your wife getting out of the car. Is she doing well?"
Heath--"Yes, she is doing very well."
Ms. Gilmore--"So you brought home the new baby."
Heath--"Actually, Melissa just had surgery to have her gall bladder removed."
Ms. Gilmore--"Oh. I saw she was getting bigger and bigger. I thought she was pregnant, but I guess it was just the gall bladder."
Now--Heath thought this was hilarious. I can see the humor, but I haven't gotten bigger and bigger! And the last time I checked, a gall bladder was itsy bitsy. Heath could tell the story better (since he wasn't drugged up at the time), but I thought it was worth sharing. In the end, Ms. Gilmore sent me a beautiful plant with pink flowers. She really is a terribly sweet woman. I can't really be upset with her.
I am just so excited about seeing my girls! It is 1:21 am and I can't sleep because I am so excited. I have packed all of our clothes and stuff for the dogs (I'm not supposed to do any of that, especially carry these heavy bags, but I want to go as soon as possible in the morning. I don't want to have to wait longer than necessary. We already have to make a stop in Little Rock to look for a suit for me. I need the suit, so I am not complaining too much, but I do hope that it is a quick stop. I keep picturing the reunion in my mind. It probably won't go the way I imagine it, but I can always hope.
The first time Heath and I left Kalyn with someone else for more than a couple hours was when we were house hunting in 2006. We left Kalyn with Mamaw and Papaw for two days. I imagined that we would see her again and she would burst into happy tears and run for us. We would meet and she would hug us and declare her everlasting love. Here is what happened in reality. We pulled up to the house and saw her in the front yard. She burst into tears and ran away from us screaming that she didn't want to go home. :( Bummer. It was a let down. A big one. Oh well. She loves being with family, and I guess that other people are just more exciting than her own boring parents with their boring rules and discipline! Keali is a bit more attached to Heath and I than Kalyn ever was, so maybe I will get my storybook reunion tomorrow with her. Sadly...I can see tears from Kalyn again. Maybe I'll get a hug this time! You gotta know this girl to appreciate her!
